As you may know, Device Driver Manager is a tool created by the for Linux Mint developers, enabling the users to easily install open source and proprietary drivers for graphics cards and wireless modules, via a simple and intuitive graphical user interface, organized in three tabs. The latest version available is Device Driver Manager 0.5.4.
In this article I will show you how to install Device Driver Manager 0.5.4 on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander.
If possible, then use an Ethernet cord to attach your device directly into a modem or router until you get WiFi up and working. Once it’s run, then select the Additional Drivers tab. The hardware manufacturer’s name viewed in Method #2 might show up in that box, and you can use their driver by clicking on Apply Changes.

Because it is not available via any repository, we have to download the deb package from the linux mint site and install it with dpkg. Like this:
$ wget -c packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main/d/ddm/ddm_0.5.4_all.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i ddm_0.5.4_all.deb
via lffl.org

A package manager does the work of loading the software package you want. If there are any dependencies, the package manager installs those as well. Additionally, a package manager automatically keeps track of all installed software and updates.
A package manager works in tandem with a software repository. A repository is a database of many different software packages. By default, each Linux distribution grants access to a set of basic, default repositories.
In Ubuntu, the default repositories are:
- Main – Free and open-source software from the Ubuntu developers
- Universe – Free and open-source software from the Linux community
- Restricted – Device drivers and other software under licensing from manufacturers
- Multiverse – All other software under copyright or legal restriction
In Debian, the default repositories are:
- Main – Free licensed software
- Contrib – Free software that depends on non-free licensed software
- Non-free – Software with restrictions on use and distribution
If you want to install a software package that’s not included in these default repositories, you need to add that repository to your package manager.
